Book Description
Treating animals just as any healer would treat human beings, Allen Schoen has become one of America’s most celebrated veterinarians. Kindred Spirits shares the transformative power of his remarkable methods, explores how alternative healing is revolutionizing his profession, and, in the tradition of James Herriot, shares heartwarming stories of animals and their caretakers who have deeply enriched each other’s lives. Through moving scenes–such as an ailing German shepherd who fights to stay alive so he can assist and comfort his ailing human companion–Schoen details the ways in which the human-animal bond can provide a wellspring of love and support, and outlines his own special prescription for improving the care we give our animals through adopting simple healing practices at home. A remarkable new synthesis of science and spirit, Kindred Spirits at last reveals the many ways our animal friends can help us lead happier, healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Book Description
This is a note-for-note transcription of Bonnie Rideout's Kindred Spirits recording. Bonnie Rideout is a master of the Scottish Fiddling genre. In her words, It hasbeen my desire to create a musical portrait honoring the contributions, great and small, that women have made to the Scots culture over the centuries. Most of themusic was written by men who were inspired by women. The titles portray women of all social levels. They are lovers, patrons, employers, connoisseurs, drunkards, and cheats. On the final track of the Kindred Spirits recording is an original piobaireachd (pibroch). I wrote it as a eulogy to Scots women who have passed on the legacy of honest hard work and pride in their own traditions: a legacy which has served to nourish the human spirit

Book Description
The inspiration for the title of Kindred Spirits comes from Jesus when he asked what he thought of his cousin, John the Baptist's ministry. In Matthew 11:14 he says, "And if you will receive it, this is Elias (or Elijah in Greek) which was for to come." In footnotes from Dakes Annotated Bible Concordance Regarding this. We find in Luke 1:17 Jesus says, "And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias," and in John 1:21 we find he was not Elias in person, but a kindred spirit.

Book Description
"Kindred Spirits focuses on a network of Catholic historians, theologians, poets, and activists who pushed against both the far-right surge in interwar Europe as well as the secularizing tendencies of the leftist movements active in the early to mid-twentieth century. Brenna Moore focuses on how this group sought a middle way anchored in "spiritual friendship"-religiously meaningful friendship conceived of as uniquely capable of engaging the social and political challenges of the era. For this interconnected group, spiritual friendship was inseparable from their resistance to European xenophobia and nationalism in the 1930s, anti-racist activism in the US in the 1930s and 1940s, and solidarity with Muslims during the Algerian War in 1954-1962. Friendship was a key to both divine and human realms, a means of accessing the transcendent while also engaging with our social and political existence. The project primarily centers on France, but members of this group also hailed from Russia, Egypt, Syria, and New York. Some of the core figures are well-known-philosopher Jacques Maritain, influential Islamicist Louis Massignon-while others are lost to history. More than a simple idealized portrait of a remarkable group of Catholic intellectuals from the past, Kindred Spirits is a deep dive into both the beauty and the flaws of a vibrant social network worth recovering from historical obscurity"--
